I was really pleased to be able to visit Intake Primary School recently in order to discuss politics and life as an MP with the pupils there.
I was lucky enough to be able to address the school assembly, taking questions from the children about my job as their MP, how I got involved in politics and what they would like to see change in the future. We also talked about laws they wanted to introduce, with some interesting suggestions including being nice to each other!
I was taken on a tour of the school and given a meeting with members of the School Council. We discussed their power as elected representatives to make changes to their school, and the ideas from students which have already come forward.
Later I was able to come back to the school and present certificates from my Christmas card competition this year, with the winning design coming from Finley Carroll. The cards have been printed and sent to over 100 people and organisations around Sheffield Heeley.
It’s hugely important that students know how their democracy works and what their representatives do to help change the world.
