Sheffield City Region has been granted £1.3 million for greener and cleaner buses. This investment will see 44 buses fitted with hybrid technology, improving emissions and energy efficiency. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/government-awards-30-million-funding-for-cleaner-greener-bus-journeys

Louise Haigh MP said: “It is great to see this level of investment in hybrid buses in the city region, which will be fantastic for the city’s commuters, helping lower emissions and provide more reliable buses.  However, we cannot forget the changes that were introduced last year and I will continue to challenge these. Looking to the future we need to see improvements in the way public transport is delivered and this autumn I will be continuing to challenge the Bus Services Bill to ensure that we can secure a better deal for all passengers. This Bill covers a wide range of the powers including the ability of combined authorities with directly elected Mayors to implement bus franchising and bus ticketing. But we need to ensure that all of this is in the best interests of bus users.”
