Coming up soon is Fairtrade Fortnight, running from February 27th to March 12th, and to mark it we’re holding a Fairtrade afternoon tea outside my office on Chesterfield Road.
Come along between 3 and 4:30 on March 3rd to get some food and drink, all prepared with Fairtrade ingredients and cooked by me and my office staff (or bought, depending on how the cooking goes). We’ll be working with Yorkshire’s MEP Linda McAvan, who’s spent much of her time campaigning on Fairtrade issues as the founder of the European Parliament’s working group on Fairtrade.
There are still millions of farmers worldwide who aren’t paid a decent rate for their produce, and it’s thanks to the Fairtrade movement that progress has been made. Fairtrade Fortnight is an effort to raise awareness of the Fairtrade cause, and encourage others to join in by holding short breaks, stalls and other events to discuss Fairtrade. If you’d like to learn more, you can read about it here.
